Cold War horology homagé

From 1945 to 1991, the Cold War dominated international affairs. The global competition between the United States and the Soviet Union took many forms: political, economic, ideological, cultural. Overshadowing all was the threat of nuclear war. The other side was considered evil and thus alien to all things good.

In the late 1980´s Gruen Watches USA, an American watch company established in 1894 which had made gauges and indicators for the US military for decades decided to exploit the curiosity of the Western watch buying public towards all things CCCP commercially.

 

Enter Gruen "Soviet" - a cheap canteen diver style beater with a Raketa R-2356 (quartz with 8 jewels):
